Dalla Cowboys tight end Blake Jarwin recently underwent a right hip surgery that puts his status in doubt for the start of next season.
While details of the hip surgery were not diclosed, the surgery is reportedly rare for active NFL players.
This is unfortunate news for Jarwin as it denotes a significant downturn for any potential 2022 comeback, said Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc.
Between his contract and his hip recovery, he seems likely to be released for cap reasons, Chao said.
As early as this January, the Cowboys were optimistic about a Jarwin return from the Oct. 31 hip injury. He came off injured reserve for Week 18 and the Wild Card loss, but only played limited snaps.
Dallton Schultz performed well with Jarwin out the last two years and is clearly the preferred option in Dallas at the moment.
Jarwin suffered a torn ACL in the first game of the 2020 season and missed the rest of the year.
Schultz had 63 catches for 615 yards and 4 touchdowns that season and had 78 catches for 808 yards and 8 touchdowns last season.
It seems clear that this season will not be a big comeback for Jarwin and there may even worries that this could end his career, Chao said.
