Cubs Injury Report: Willson Contreras Leaves Game vs. Diamondbacks With Hamstring Injury

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras was replaced by a pinch runner in the bottom of the third inning with an apparent right hamstring injury.

Willson Contreras Injury Update

The 30-year-old started as the designated hitter on Saturday and was 1-2 with a stolen base before exiting.

He was on second base when Seiya Suzuki ripped a ball foul and he appeared to suffer the tightness while running to third.

Contreras asked to come out of the game and was replaced by outfielder Rafael Ortega.

Hamstring injuries are difficult to judge by video, but if Contreras is dealing with a strain it would be nearly impossible for him to avoid a 10-day IL stint.

Either way, the Cubs are likely to be cautious with the star catcher and keep him out of Sunday's lineup while they assess his status.

Veteran catcher Yan Gomes will likely see increased playing time until Contreras can return.

Contreras is slashing .254/.380/.458 with 5 home runs and 14 RBIs in 33 games this season.
