The Dallas Cowboys go into Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday night to face the last undefeated team in the NFL. This heated division rivalry will be between the top two records in the NFL. But that won’t mean these teams will show mercy to each other. It means they will attempt to play their best game of the season with a future division crown hanging in the balance. So, what injuries could stop each team from reaching its deepest desires?
Dak Prescott said he thought he could play in week 5 versus the Los Angeles Rams, but that proved to be a fallacy when he didn’t suit up. His head coach said the team is preparing for his backup, Cooper Rush, to start again against this week's matchup.
So, when will Prescott return? First, according to his head coach, he must register a full week of practice.
But, according to the Pro Football Docs, Week 7 is the beginning of a realistic return date for Prescott.
Cowboys versatile linebacker Micah Parsons is one of the favorites to win NFL defensive player of the year. He’s had a tremendous start to his sophomore season. But a groin injury hampered him in last week's game. Even though he ended the game with six pressures and two sacks, Parsons was limited to third-down action.
The Cowboys signed former Eagles left tackle Jason Peters, after starting left tackle Tyron Smith went down with a torn hamstring. Peters was training to start at left guard for the team, but after two weeks of ramping up his snaps, he suffered a chest injury. But, the 40-year-old tackle told a Dallas Cowboys reporter, “I was at practice today — I’m good.” So, it looks like Peters might be available for the Cowboys this weekend after expecting to be out for a couple of weeks.
Starting tight end, Dalton Schultz has been battling a partially torn PCL injury for the last couple of weeks that caused him to miss one game and limp out of another. But Schultz is expected to keep battling through the injury.
The Eagles have faced many offensive line injuries over the past couple of weeks, but it looks like they're getting healthy at the right time. Starting left tackle Jordan Mailata has been a limited participant in practice this week but is expected to play after missing last week's game versus the Arizona Cardinals.
Longtime center Jason Kelce went to the locker room against the Cardinals with an ankle injury, but returned to the game. He has been limited this week but is expected to suit up.
Landon Dickerson also suffered an ankle injury that left him hobbled after the Cardinals game. But the right guard has been known to play through injury. So, it would be no surprise to see Dickerson play Sunday night.
Kicker Jake Elliott did not play in last week's game versus the Cardinals with a right ankle injury. He’s been limited this week, and the team hopes he’ll be able to play in the big game against their division rival.
The Eagles are favored by 6.5 points at home and the over/under is 42.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
