Blazers All-NBA guard Damian Lillard may return as early as this Sunday versus the Timberwolves after receiving a cortisone shot to help with the pain caused by his lingering lower abdominal tendinopathy, according to Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes. Lillard was ruled out for 10 days on Dec. 1 after an MRI found the tendinopathy, and he will be re-evaluated before Sunday to see if he is ready to return. The cortisone shot is meant to temporarily relieve pain and inflammation, and is not a long-term solution, but re-affirms Lillard's desire to play through the ailment that he has dealt with for "3-and-a-half to 4 seasons." His return will be a boon for the 11-14 Trail Blazers, who have lost 6 of their last 7 and will be without CJ McCollum indefinitely as he recovers from a collapsed lung.
