Davante Adams Takes Helmet-To-Helmet Hit From Jimmie Ward, Returns To Game

Packers star receiver Davante Adams left the Sunday night game in the fourth quarter after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from safety Jimmie Ward. By video, quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw a deep ball to Adams that was broken up from behind by cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, then free safety Jimmie Ward came flying in leading with his helmet and hit Adams in the upper chest/chin area. Adams was down on the field for about 2 minutes, according to the TV broadcast. He then went to the medical tent and was checked by the independent neurologist for about 1 minute and 30 seconds of real time before he was cleared to return. Adams ran onto the field during the same offensive series and has remained in the game. When checking for concussions, medical personnel have to review the video replay of the hit and ask five screening questions. There is a very tight timeline to get this done and I am not saying anything nefarious happened. However, it would be nice to have a medical representative available that a pool reporter can ask questions of after the game for a better explanation of the process involved.

Update

After the game, Adams told reporters the reason he stayed on the turf was because he hurt his chest and was having trouble catching his breath. Adams missed two games with a concussion in 2017 so we hope he is not diagnosed with a concussion in the coming days.
