DeMar DeRozan Enters Health and Safety Protocols, Bringing Total in Chicago to 3 COVID-Positive Bulls

Bulls all-star DeMar DeRozan was placed in the league's health and safety protocols on Monday after a positive COVID-19 test, the team announced Monday. DeRozan today was named the East's player of the week for the 16-8 Bulls.

The 31-year-old forward, who is 4th in the NBA in scoring at 26.4 points per game, is the 3rd Bulls player in the last week to test positive. Guard Coby White entered protocols on Dec. 1, and forward Javonte Green tested positive on Dec. 4. The Bulls played the Hornets on Nov. 29, and since, 8 players involved in the contest have entered the NBA's protocols, which stipulate that a player must isolate and be symptom-free for 10 days, and/or post 2 negative PCR tests over 24 hours apart before returning to the team.

Chicago, who has won 3 straight games, is set to take on the Nuggets, Cavaliers, Heat, Pistons, Raptors, and Lakers over its next 6 games. Zach Lavine, who is averaging 25.6 points per game on 48.6% shooting in his own right, will take on a heavier load, backed by all-star center Nikola Vucevic and guard Lonzo Ball. Chicago is already without two other key players, forward Patrick Williams (out 4-6 with a left wrist injury) and Alex Caruso (hamstring strain), for the time being.
