In the preseason, the Chargers Pro Bowl safety re-fractured his fifth metatarsal first injured in college, requiring a more complex surgery which included bone grafting. This complicated procedure leads to a longer recovery and we said in our preseason report that his earliest chance at a return would be December. There seems to be confirmation that this is the case. He is still on injured reserve and his three-week window has not opened yet for returning to practice. The Chargers play this week on Thursday against the Raiders, and then week 11 versus the Chiefs on Monday night before heading into a week 13 bye. The earliest return for James will be the week 14 game. As we wait for his 21-day practice window to open, keep in mind December is the earliest he can return.
