Despite UCL Tear, Max Muncy Likely Ready For Start of Season

Dodgers lefty power hitter Max Muncy was absent from the team’s exit from the playoffs last season after suffering a dislocated left elbow in a collision at first base.

Los Angeles beat the Cardinals in the Wild Card and the Giants in the Division Series, but fell to the eventual-champion Atlanta Braves.

During the playoff run, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Muncy did not have a torn UCL in his injured elbow and the team was hopeful he could return at some point in the playoffs.

But a month after the season, Muncy revealed that he did in fact tear the UCL in his elbow.

The ProBaseballDocs said at the time that a torn UCL was a distinct possibility, based on video of the injury.

Fortunately for Muncy, the injury was to his non-throwing elbow, thus it did not require surgery.

The ProBaseballDocs project that he will be fully recovered and ready by the eventual start of the season.

He recently said he has started swinging in full and expects to be ready for Opening Day.

While the CBA talks have been bad for baseball fans everywhere, it also might allow Muncy an even better chance to be ready for the season’s first game.

Elbow injuries are fairly straight forward and it’s just a matter of time before he is fully healthy.

He is a prime candidate to start the year at DH for the Dodgers, who are reportedly interested in first baseman Freddie Freeman as well.

Muncy hit 36 HRs for the Dodgers last season with a .249 batting average and a .368 on-base percentage.
