Casey Mize, the Detroit Tigers young starting pitcher, has not pitched since experiencing elbow pain after his April 14 but received positive news for his timeline to return.
Mize pitched five innings in both of his starts this season, but was placed on the 10-day IL after his April 14 against the Royals.
On Wednesday, Mize spoke to reporters and said he was “feeling good. Given the circumstances, really positive.”
That's certainly a better outlook than when he hit IL with the dreaded, vague elbow injury.
Still, Mize reportedly remains without a timeline to resume throwing.
Detroit is also dealing with an injury to Matt Manning, who was place on the 10-day IL Wednesday with shoulder inflammation. The Tigers are reportedly hopeful that Manning will only miss one start.
At 5-7, the Tigers could use all the pitching help they can get at the moment. Through their first 16 games, the Tigers have allowed 4.45 runs per game, seventh worst in the league.
