The 49ers have suffered another blow to their team health as linebacker Dre Greenlaw will undergo core muscle surgery for an injury he suffered during the team's Week 1 win over the Lions. Hopefully this will not be a repeat of 2020 when injuries decimated the 49ers. The team has already lost Raheem Mostert and Jason Verrett for the season, plus running back Jeff Wilson Jr. is out for a significant stretch of the season with a knee injury. Greenlaw's injury was initially listed as dealing with the groin, but now the absence will be longer since it is related to the core muscle. The proposed surgery has a six week recovery timeline at the earliest. The third-year linebacker will be placed on IR for a minimum of three weeks and we project that November is the earliest he could return. This certainly will affect the 49ers in terms of their SIC score, and hopefully this will be the end of their string of bad injury luck.
