The Saints continue to play coy about whether Drew Brees will play on Sunday. He has been reported as questionable. Reports are he threw the ball well at practice, however this does not mean that he will start and play the whole game. I have faith and confidence that with a thumb brace, he spin the ball well and be accurate. The issue is whether there is risk of a setback or pain in the ball security phase. Defenders are taught to punch the ball out and caused turnovers. The question is whether Brees" thumb can withstand those forces without a setback. It has yet to be announced if Brees will be the starter or if the Saints will use the bye week next week to rest him. Another option is knowing Sean Payton's creativity, Brees could play in specialized packages where the ball comes out of his hand quickly and thus minimal risk posed.
