Brees posted a video of himself throwing, which created quite the stir. By limited video, he throws a few short passes. It does show good progress, but this does not mean he will play next week. He’s three weeks out from tearing his thumb ulnar collateral ligament and surgery. He didn’t take a typical snap (but did catch a light toss) or hand the ball off, which would jar the thumb and cause pain. It’s clear he and the medical staff are working hard and trying to get back on the field asap, but there are still limitations/soreness. Brees also needs to prove ball security as surely defenders will attempt to strip the ball as the always do anyeays but now will do with more vigor. Many thought it was aggressive but we have had confidence all along in a full return at six weeks with a thumb splint and this certainly puts him on track for that. Heck, he might even beat our aggressive timeline but if so only by a week.
