A ESPN report stated Drew Brees will indeed start this week at home against the Cardinals. This is just days shy of the six week mark that we talked about on the site. He will wear a thumb splint. I believe his grip and ability to spin the ball will not be affected. The concern comes with ball security and follow through as a clean pocket is never promised. In addition, defenders are taught to swipe / karate chop at the ball when the quarterback is in a throwing motion or being sacked. There is also concern for pain and/or re-aggravation. It would not surprise me if the Saints had a plan for this, where they modified the game plan so Brees could get the ball out quickly. Fantasy, DFS players and gamblers be aware that Brees starting is not necessarily a guarantee that he will take all the snaps at quarterback. Sean Payton has certainly proven to be a creative coach (see his usage of Taysom Hill). I am sure they will be smart with Brees on Sunday.
