Elijah Mitchell, the rookie 49ers running back, is in concussion protocol and likely won't be available this Sunday against the Bengals. Mitchell left the loss to the Seahawks late in the third quarter after taking an elbow to the head from linebacker Darrell Taylor. The rookie rusher left the game and underwent a concussion check in the blue medical tent before returning to the game.
Mitchell presumably did not show concussion symptoms until after the game ended. Delayed symptoms can often happen with concussions, as was likely the case with Giants backup quarterback Mike Glennon.
The 49ers playing in Cincinnati presents a slight hurdle for Mitchell getting cleared to play, as the team will have to decide whether to have him travel with the team on Friday. If Mitchell can't play Sunday, JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson Jr. would handle the running back duties.
