Elijah Mitchell Undergoes Surgery After Breaking Finger On MNF

49ers starting running back Elijah Mitchell suffered a broken finger Monday night and underwent surgery to put a pin in the finger today, Kyle Shanahan told reporters. Mitchell’s status is unclear, but there is optimism in the organization that he will be able to practice this week and play in the 49ers (4-5) Week 11 game versus the Jaguars. The sixth-round rookie has rushed for 560 yards and three touchdowns while catching nine passes for 73 yards in seven games this season. Mitchell stepped in to replace Raheem Mostert, who tore his ACL in the first quarter of Week 1 and is out for the season. If he does not go, expect RB Jeff Wilson Jr. to take the starting role. Wilson just returned in Week 9 after missing the first half of the season with a torn meniscus but we have doubts on his effectiveness going forward as well. The 49ers RB room has been decimated all season and continues to take injury hits.
