Eloy Jiménez Sitting Today vs. Mariners After Suffering Left Ankle Contusion

White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenéz will miss Thursday's day game against the Mariners after fouling a ball off his left ankle in Wednesday night's game.

Jimenéz turned on an inside pitch during an at bat in the 3rd inning and fouled the ball off the inside of his left ankle. He remained in the game and struck out, then was pulled by manager Tony La Russa in the 5th inning.

X-rays after the game were negative and he's reportedly considered day-to-day with a left ankle contusion.

Andrew Vaughn is starting in left field for today's game and Adam Engel gets the start in right.

Jimenéz, the hulking right hander, is 4-17 to start the year with 1 homerun and 7 runs batted in.

He played just 55 games last season after suffering a torn pectoral in March 2021. He made his season debut on July 26 last year and hit .249 the rest of the year with 10 homeruns and 10 doubles.
