The Atlanta Falcons placed starting running back Cordarrelle Patterson on IR Monday morning for a knee issue he has been dealing with early in the season.
Patterson reportedly underwent a procedure on his knee Monday and will miss at least the next four games.
The 31-year-old likely underwent a knee scope for a chronic knee issue and his return timeline is four-to-six weeks, according to the Pro Football Docs.
Patterson was questionable for the Week 4 matchup against the Browns, but was active and rushed 9 times for 38 yards and a touchdown.
He was out-touched by Caleb Huntley and Tyler Allgeier, who both rushed 10 times. Allgeier outrushed Huntley 84-56, but Huntley scored a rushing touchdown.
Patterson’s knee issue is not surprising given his advanced age for a running back, according to the Pro Football Docs.
He is in his 10th season and has played in 147 games, with a majority of that work coming in a special teams role. He has missed just two games due to injury in his 10-year career – one for a knee injury and one for an ankle injury.
Through four games, Patterson has 340 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns.
Atlanta is an 8-point underdog on the road against Tampa Bay and the over/under is 48.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
