As the fantasy football draft season approaches, New York Jets running back Breece Hall will have one of the most interesting recoveries to track.
The 21-year-old out of Iowa State suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in his left knee on Oct. 23 and faces an uphill battle to be ready Week 1, according to the Pro Football Docs.
Currently, he carries a SIC score of 37 based on recent video of him running at OTAs.
Hall is currently ranked #19 for both half-PPR and PPR leagues on FantasyPros, ahead of names like Travis Etienne Jr., Mark Andrews and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
In the running back tiers, he’s ranked above Etienne, Najee Harris and Aaron Jones.
Last season, Hall ranked #6 among running backs in overall fantasy points (half-PPR) through Week 7, when he suffered his injury.
If healthy, he would likely be a consensus first round pick in most formats.
However, he will not start the season healthy and may not be fully effective until the midway point.
While Hall’s pass-catching ability is attractive given the addition of Aaron Rodgers, there are likely better options around his ADP, according to the Pro Football Docs.
The second year off an ACL tear is when a running back begins to look like his pre-injury self (see Saquon Barkley).
Hall’s knee injury was less severe than the one suffered by Broncos running back Javonte Williams, but Hall’s injury happened three weeks later in the season.
While it would be smart to temper expectations to start the season, Hall will certainly have opportunities to produce later in the season.
If Hall is not ready by Week 1, the Jets have Michael Carter, Zonovan Knight and rookie fifth-round draft pick Israel Abanikanda to turn to.
Hall is +2000 to win Comeback Player of the Year and the Jets are +250 to win the AFC East, trailing the Bills at +130 but ahead of the Dolphins at +290.

Making progress but a long ways away.
Favors the left knee considerably.
Straight line running and acceleration comes before cutting and deceleration which is not there yet.
Not optimistic that he will be 100% for Week1.
Low #SICscore right now.

Breece Hall is doing side sprints on a side field and working his way back from a torn ACL. The team is hopeful that he’s ready by Week 1. #TakeFlight
