Francisco Alvarez Suffers Torn Left Thumb Ligament

New York Mets Catcher Francisco Alvarez suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb. The Mets placed Alvarez on the 10-day IL on Saturday. According to Manager Carlos Mendoza, Alvarez is expected to undergo surgery early this week.

Pro Baseball Docs expect Alvarez to eventually be placed on the 60-day IL but would not be surprised if the team holds out hope that he returns sooner. The injury is not season-ending.

Alvarez was injured on Friday while rounding first base jamming his thumb trying to keep his balance.

On the season Alvarez is hitting .236 with one home run and eight RBIs.
