Free Agent RB Tarik Cohen Suffers Torn Achilles While Training on IG Live

Former Bears running back Tarik Cohen suffered a potentially career-ending injury while training on IG Live Tuesday.

By video, our panel of Pro Football Docs strongly believe Cohen suffered a torn right Achilles tendon.

Cohen steps back to accelerate and there is an audible “pop” on the video, although it's not exactly clear if that audio was from his Achilles or in the background at the gym.

Either way, the injury has all the makings of an Achilles tendon rupture, according to the Pro Football Docs. Cohen immediately looked back at his leg, as if he stepped in a hole or was kicked.

The 26-year-old was released by the Bears with an injury designation in mid-March. His last game with Chicago came in late September 2020, when he suffered a right knee ACL tear and fractured tibia during a fair catch on a punt.

He missed the entire 2021 season while on PUP and recently detailed the numerous struggles he went through during his recovery, including the death of his twin brother in May 2021.

Unfortunately, Cohen's outlook for a potential return does not look positive. He's a shifty running back who has suffered two catastrophic injuries to his right leg.

Once confirmed, he will have surgery on his torn Achilles tendon. That recovery will stretch into the offseason ahead of the 2023 season and it would be great news if he could be ready for a potential training camp invite.

Cohen amassed 1,101 rushing yards and 1,575 receiving yards through four season in Chicago, including an All-Pro and Pro Bowl season in 2018.

Update

Unfortunately, the MRI has confirmed an Achilles tendon tear for Cohen.

With an ACL tear and an Achilles tendon rupture both on his right side, he will have difficulty returning to his agile ways. Cam Akers beat the odds last season to return from an Achilles tendon tear, but struggled to be effective. It remains to be seen if Cohen will get another contract.
