George Kittle Injury: 49ers Tight End Unlikely to Play With Groin Injury

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle missed practice for a second straight day Thursday as he recovers from a groin injury.

Kittle's absence from practice likely means he's not playing Sunday against Chicago, according to the Pro Football Docs.

He would need to have a limited practice Friday to have a chance of playing.

Backup tight end Tyler Kroft will likely see a boost in targets if Kittle misses the game.

George Kittle Injury Update

Kittle missed three games last season after suffering a calf strain in Week 3.

The three-time Pro Bowl tight end has spent significant time on the sidelines due to injury in his career. Through his five seasons in the league, he’s played in 36 of 49 possible games, clocking in a a lowly 73%.

Aaron Wilson reported earlier Thursday that one source characterized Kittle's groin injury as “serious” and another source referred to it as a Grade 2 strain.

If that is the case, Kittle could be looking at a potential multi-week absence.

The Pro Football Docs need more info before commenting on his status for Week 2.
