George Kittle Placed On IR, Dealing With Bothersome Calf Issue

George Kittle, the 49er star tight end, has been placed on injured reserve before his team's Week 5 matchup. He was DNP all week and listed as doubtful before being placed on IR. The placement on IR will cost him four weeks, because of the 49ers bye Week 6 as a player needs to miss three games not three weeks. Calf injuries linger, which makes this a smart move to get him healthy. Week four, he logged one limited practice, but still played through injury. He was targeted 10 times making four catches for 40 yards. Any sort of calf strain takes weeks to recover and this rest will ultimately have him healthier later in the season.
