Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered a left ankle injury in the first quarter of Thursday's 131-107 loss to the Phoenix Suns.
He stayed in the game and played a total of 30 minutes, but the injury could keep him out of Monday's matchup against the Portland Trailblazers.
Antetokounmpo was injured on a drive when he stepped on the foot of Suns forward Jae Crowder. By video, the ProBasketballDocs assert that the 27-year-old suffered a mild inversion ankle sprain, a common ankle sprain in basketball.
Because the two-time MVP has a history of left ankle injuries, he would face a short absence at most.
Even though his ankle turns, there is limited new damage because ankle ligaments heal more loosely after a previous ankle sprain.
If the team can limit post game swelling and rehab the ankle ahead of Monday's contest, he should be available for his usual minutes.
Before the injury, the 2021 NBA champion had 5 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists on 1-1 shooting and 3-4 from the free throw line.
After the injury, he had 13 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and was 4-13 shooting, 0-3 from 3-point range and 5-10 on free throws.
In 47 games this season, Antetokounnmpo is averaging 29 points, 11.2 rebounds, 6 assists, 1.4 blocks and 3.3 turnovers on 54.1% shooting from the field, 29.6% from three and 72.2% from the free throw line.
The Bucks (35-22), also lost guard Pat Connaughton to a broken finger on his right hand in the loss to the Suns.
