Giants Injury Report: Rookie Of The Month Luis González Pulled After HBP

Giants' outfielder Luis González didn't get to celebrate his Rookie of The Month honor for long, as he left the game in the second inning after taking a pitch to the right shin.

Luis Gonzalez Injury Update

The 92-mile-an-hour fastball ricocheted off González's leg just above his shin and ankle guard.

Manager Gabe Kapler pulled the 26-year-old after he was visibly limping and grimacing while running up and down the first base line to test out the leg. Second baseman Donovan Walton batted in his spot in the order and Joc Pederson moved into right field.

The Giants told reporters that the x-ray on his shin came back negative and he is listed as day-to-day with a lower right leg contusion.

González– unrelated to the former Arizona Diamondback and 2001 World Series hero – is seeing his first extended playing time in the majors.

The outfielder hit one home run with 13 RBI, eight runs, seven doubles, and three stolen bases on a .368 average in 23 games in May.

Overall, González is batting .324 with two home runs and 19 RBI on 108 at-bats in his first year in San Francisco.

The Giants are already without several outfielders, including LaMonte Wade Jr., Austin Slater, and Steven Duggar, while Darin Ruf is away on bereavement.

Twenty-two-year-old prospect Heliot Ramos was brought back up to the majors in Ruf's place.
