The Giants pulled starting pitcher Alex Cobb in the fifth inning Tuesday after he suffered an apparent right adductor strain.
Cobb, who was the starter for the first game of San Francisco's doubleheader against the Mets, left with one out and one runner on after allowing a two-run double.
The Giants placed him on the 10-day IL in between the first and second game of the doubleheader after having to use seven pitchers in the 5-4 loss to start the day.
The 34-year-old right-hander said he believed he suffered the strain earlier in the inning when he was covering a groundball earlier in the inning. He added that he felt his groin tightening up while umpires were reviewing the play, but he didn't “feel one particular run or move that had this pull feel or like anything tore.”
Cobb, who came over from the Angels on a two-year, $20 million deal last offseason, has a 4.82 ERA and 14 strikeouts over 9.1 innings this season.
