Giants Starter Anthony DeSclafani To Miss Multiple Weeks With Ankle Inflammation

Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani reportedly won't throw for one week as he recovers from right ankle inflammation that landed him on the 10-day IL on Friday.

DeSclafani's MRI results Monday did not reveal anything other than the inflammation he was already diagnosed with.

The 32-year-old has given up 22 hits over 13 1/3 innings in his first three starts of the season.

San Francisco manager Gabe Kapler told reporters he believes the ankle discomfort has limited DeSclafani's effectiveness recently.

"You can sort of see it, you can see that he's not exploding off the back side, he's not pushing with as much force as he normally is off of that right foot," Kapler said. "The velocity was a little bit down. The stuff was a little bit down."

DeSclafani left a start last August with the same ankle ailment, but he returned 11 days later.

This time, his recovery will extend a little longer because he will likely require at least one rehab start to build his arm back up.

The Giants (11-5) currently sit in second place in the West and kick off a two-game series against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday.
