The Hornets will likely be without veteran swingman Gordon Hayward for the entire postseason as he deals with a left foot injury.
Hayward will reportedly be placed in a cast to immobilize his left foot, then will be reevaluated in two weeks.
This is not a positive sign for the 32-year-old, who has played just under 17 minutes since February 7.
Even if the Hornets get through the play-in tournament, the ProBasketballDocs don't expect Hayward back at any time during the postseason.
A cast means a prolonged recovery timeline even if his foot is not fractured.
Hayward apparently suffered the foot injury in his return on April 2, his first game back from a 22-game absence because of a left ankle sprain.
The Hornets, who are tied with the Hawks for the No. 9 seed, are 12-6 since March 2 partly behind forward P.J. Washington and Cody Martin, who have both stepped up without Hayward.
Hayward's extended absence after suffering a left ankle sprain was curious in and of itself, as the injury appeared to be a standard inversion ankle sprain unrelated to his gruesome broken leg suffered in October 2017.
