Jazz star guard Donovan Mitchell exited the Game 5 loss to the Mavericks in ominous fashion.
With 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the 25-year-old limped to the locker room grabbing his left hamstring after making a jump pass on a fast break.
On Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski reported positive MRI results for Mitchell, saying that he is just dealing with bruises on both quads.
“There remains optimism for his availability vs. Dallas in Game 6 on Thursday,” Wojnarowski reported in the tweet.
The Pro Basketball Docs acknowledge that Mitchell will likely try to play in the elimination game, but his hamstring injury is not fully behind him.
Strains are notoriously difficult to diagnose by video, but Mitchell is likely dealing with more than just a scare.
Even if he was just dealing with the quad bruises, he would not have full mobility just three days later.
Mitchell carries a SIC player health score of 54 for Game 6, meaning that he would do well to meet a more than half of his typical production.
Mitchell averaged 30.3 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists in the first four games of the series, then had a dismal shooting night in Game 5.
With the Jazz down 3-2, Mitchell is likely to do everything possible to return to the court on Thursday.
However, the #1 Jazz scorer is nowhere near as healthy as Luka Doncic, who has looked great in his 2 games back from the left calf strain.
The Mavericks are 2.5-point favorites in Game 6 and the over/under is 209, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
