Indiana Pacers big man Myles Turner has been officially shut down for the remainder of the season as he recovers from a stress reaction in his left foot.
The move is simply a formality for the 25-50 Pacers. Turner has not played since mid-January and the team want him healthy for next season or an offseason trade.
Turner will be in the final year of a four-year, $80 million deal and represent a cap hit of $18 million.
That makes him unlikely to remain on a rebuilding Pacers team. In fact, if he hadn't suffered the stress reaction he may have already been dealt.
The left foot stress reaction is the first step towards a stress fracture, thus the team's cautious approach with him for the remainder of the season.
Turner's foot issue should be well resolved by the start of next season but he's now dealt with injuries in each foot the past two seasons.
He missed 22 of 23 games in the 2020-21 season with a plantar plate tear in his right big toe.
The 26-year-old finishes the year averaging 12.9 points with 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks on 50.9% from the field and 33.3% from three.
