Heat F Caleb Martin Out Multiple Weeks With Knee Injury

Miami Heat forward Caleb Martin suffered a non-contact left knee injury Wednesday night and will likely be sidelined until the playoffs.

By video, the ProBasketballDocs believe Martin suffered a knee hyperextension with worry for a bone bruise.

The worse case scenario would be an ACL tear, but the ProBasketballDocs don't think that is the case.

Depending on the extent of the bone bruise and overnight swelling, Martin could be out two-to-four weeks.

Martin was injured when he drove baseline and he took an awkward step with his left leg as he went to jump. He landed on his right leg, then fell to the ground and left the game.

The 26-year-old was playing increased minutes last night with star small forward Jimmy Butler out due to a non-COVID illness.

Martin has also dealt with a sore right Achilles tendon recently. He missed 5 of the 7 games before the All-Star break, but had played in 8 straight games since the break.

The third-year guard is averaging 9.4 points, 4 rebounds and 1.1 assists this season in 22.8 minutes per game.

He will likely return in time for a playoff run for the first-place Heat and the hope is his right Achilles troubles will also be done by the time he gets back.

In the meantime, his absence opens up more minutes for Max Strus and Victor Oladipo, who recently returned after an 11-month absence due to knee and quad injuries.
