Here Are the Players Still on Active PUP, NFI During Training Camp

Arizona Cardinals

  • TE, Maxx Williams (knee)

Atlanta Falcons

  • LB, Deion Jones (shoulder)

Jones underwent surgery on his left shoulder in the offseason, but should be back for the start of the regular season.

Baltimore Ravens

  • OT, Ronnie Stanley (ankle)

The 28-year-old left tackle has lingering issues with the left ankle that cost him the better part of two seasons. Our Pro Football Docs are concerned he may not return to his pre-injury form. John Harbaugh said recently they are unsure when he will return.

  • OLB, Tyus Bowser (Achilles)

Bowser suffered an Achilles tear last January and is still working his way back. He has a chance to play Week 1, but will be limited early in the season.

  • CB, Marcus Peters (ACL)

The 29 year old suffered his ACL tear a few days before Week 1. ACL tears are tougher to return from for cornerbacks because of the frequent need to decelerate and cut. It may take until the second half of the season for him to look right.

  • RB, J.K. Dobbins (ACL)

Dobbins' left knee injury also included LCL damage, which makes his return more difficult. Baltimore will likely be cautious with the 23 year old. He was activated from PUP on Aug. 8, but is still not guaranteed to be ready for Week 1.

  • RB, Gus Edwards (ACL)

The fifth-year back suffered his ACL tear in early September. His tear was contained just to the ACL, giving him a slightly more favorable timeline.

  • S, Ar'Darious Washington (foot)

Buffalo Bills

  • CB, Tre'Davious White (ACL)

The All-Pro cornerback suffered a torn ACL last November and the Pro Football Docs said he may stay on the PUP list when the season officially starts. White has an SIC score of 41 for the Super Bowl hopeful Bills.

  • OG, Ike Boettger (Achilles)

  • DT, Eli Ankou (calf)

  • NFI list: OG, Rodger Saffold (ribs)

The free-agent addition was placed on the NFI list, which serves a similar purpose for players who weren't on the roster (free agents, rookies) or at team facilities when they suffered the injury. Saffold suffered a ribs injury in a car accident this offseason after coming over from the Titans and is dealing with a lingering nerve issue in his shoulder.

Carolina Panthers

  • LB, Shaq Thompson (knee)

Chicago Bears

  • LB Roquan Smith (contract, conditioning)

Smith was placed on the PUP list amidst his ongoing contract dispute, but is present at practice and “locked in” during team meetings. Head coach Matt Eberflus said that Smith was the lone player not to take the team's conditioning test but didn't elaborate on the “hold-in.”

  • DE, Sam Kamara (undisclosed)

Cincinnati Bengals

  • NFI: OT, La'el Collins (back)

  • LB, Joe Bachie (ACL)

  • DE, Khalid Kareem (undisclosed)

  • DB, Brandon Wilson (ACL)

Cleveland Browns

  • CB, Denzel Ward (foot)

  • WR, David Bell (foot)

  • NFI: LB, Anthony Walker Jr. (groin)

  • DT, Sheldon Day (back)

Dallas Cowboys

  • WR, Michael Gallup (ACL)

Gallup suffered a Week 17 torn left ACL and MCL in January and the Pro Football Docs project him to be unavailable or ineffective in the first half of the season. He has an SIC score of 57 after signing a 5-year, $57 million extension

  • NFI: WR, Dontario Drummond (undisclosed)

  • NFI: LB, Aaron Hansford (undisclosed)

  • CB, Quandre Mosely (undisclosed)

  • NFI: LB, Damone Clark (back)

Denver Broncos

  • OG, Tom Compton (back)

Detroit Lions

  • NFI list: WR, Jameson Williams (ACL)

The Docs believe Williams will likely stay on the NFI list to start the season – NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported the Lions believe so as well – and he will be unavailable or ineffective until the second half of the season while he recovers from a January torn ACL.

  • DE, Romeo Okwara (Achilles)

  • DE, Josh Paschal (sports hernia)

  • CB, Jerry Jacobs (knee)

  • FB, Jason Cabina (ankle)

  • NFI list: S, C.J. Moore (undisclosed)

Green Bay Packers

  • OT, David Bakhtiari (ACL)

His December 2020 ACL injury has leaked into two seasons now. Our Pro Football Docs gave his a season SIC score of 81 because of lingering questions about his left knee.

  • TE, Robert Tonyan (ACL)

Tonyan tore the ACL in his left knee in late October last season. He has a SIC score of 64 for the season, indicating it will take him until the second third of the season to look like his former self.

  • WR, Christian Watson (knee surgery)

  • OL, Elgton Jenkins (ACL)

  • RB, Kylin Hill (ACL)

  • K, Mason Crosby (undisclosed)

  • NFI list: CB, Keisean Nixon (undisclosed)

Houston Texans

  • NFI list: WR, John Metchie III (cancer)

Metchie III announced he was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, a rare form of blood cancer, and will miss the season while undergoing treatment

  • DE, Jordan Jenkins (ankle)

  • S, Tristian McCollum (undisclosed)

Indianapolis Colts

  • LB, Shaquille Leonard (back)

The veteran All-Pro linebacker had offseason back surgery and is still working his way back. Our panel of Pro Football Docs give him a season SIC score of 70 because of lingering concerns about his back.

Jacksonville Jaguars

  • None

Kansas City Chiefs

  • DB, Rashad Fenton (shoulder)

  • OT, Lucas Niang (torn patellar tendon)

  • WR, Justyn Ross (foot)

  • OT, Prince Tega Wanogho (leg)

  • DT, Cortez Broughton (undisclosed)

Las Vegas Raiders

  • DT, Johnathan Hankins (undisclosed)

  • DT, Bilal Nichols (undisclosed)

  • CB, Trayvon Mullen (foot)

  • WR, Dillon Stoner (undisclosed)

Los Angeles Chargers

  • LB, Kenneth Murray Jr. (ankle)

After undergoing ankle surgery, Murray Jr. is expected to begin practicing in the next month, according to Brandon Staley. It is unclear if the starter will be ready for Week 1 on Sept. 11 against the Raiders.

  • NFI: TE, Stone Smartt (undisclosed)

Los Angeles Rams

  • NFI: LB, Travin Howard (groin)

Howard injured his groin training on his own in the offseason and will undergo surgery to fix the issue.

  • S, Quentin Lake (undisclosed)

  • RB, Kyren Williams (foot)

  • WR, Warren Jackson (undisclosed)

Miami Dolphins

  • CB, Byron Jones (ankle)

  • NFI: S, Elijah Campbell (undisclosed)

Minnesota Vikings

  • LB, Ryan Connelly (knee)

  • WR, Blake Proehl (ACL)

New England Patriots

  • RB, James White (hip)

The Pro Football Docs are not optimistic about his health to start the season. His age and the severity of his injury are working against him.

  • C, David Andrews (shoulder)

  • LB, Raekwon McMillan (knee)

  • CB, Jonathan Jones (shoulder)

  • S, Jabrill Peppers (ankle, knee)

  • NFI: OG, Chasen Hines (undisclosed)

  • NFI: OG Andrew Stueber (undisclosed)

New Orleans Saints

  • DE, Marcus Davenport (shoulder)

Davenport underwent surgery on his right shoulder and had part of left pinkie finger amputated this offseason. The shoulder surgery is a bigger concern, but he projects to be healthy for Week 1.

  • TE, Dylan Soehner (undisclosed)

  • NFI: WR, Rashid Shaheed (undisclosed)

Philadelphia Eagles

  • TE, Richard Rodgers (ACL)

  • TE, Tyree Jackson (ACL)

  • OL, Brett Toth (ACL)

New York Giants

  • C, Nick Gates (lower leg)

  • OT, Matt Peart (knee)

  • NFI: LB, Azeez Ojulari (hamstring)

  • WR, Sterling Shephard (Achilles)

Of the three Giants wideouts returning from injury, the Docs are the least optimistic about Shephard, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon on Dec. 19.

New York Jets

  • NFI: TE, Jeremy Ruckert (foot)

San Francisco 49ers

  • CB, Jason Verrett (ACL)

  • TE, Charlie Woerner (core muscle)

  • NFI: DT, Kalia Davis (ACL)

Seattle Seahawks

  • CB, Tre Brown (patellar tendon)

  • OT, Liam Ryan (undisclosed)

  • LB, Jon Rhattigan (knee)

Tennessee Titans

  • LB, Monty Rice (Achilles)

  • K, Caleb Shudak (leg)

Washington Commanders

  • DE Chase Young (ACL)

The 2020 No. 1 overall pick suffered a torn right ACL and MCL last November. He has an SIC score of 68 for the 2022 season and will likely be eased back in and primarily used on the left side once he makes it back to the field.

  • TE, Logan Thomas (ACL)

Thomas became the second Commanders star lost to a torn ACL in Week 13 and will take a longer path back to the field. The Docs give the 31-year-old tight end a 56 SIC score for 2022.

  • C, Tyler Larsen (Achilles)

  • NFI: OT, Cornelius Lucas (illness)
