Here's Dak Prescott's Realistic Return Timeline

The Cowboys are 4-0 since Dak Prescott suffered a broken thumb in Week 1, but have the 27th ranked offense in yards and 24th in points fielded.

While Cooper Rush has performed admirably during his four-start stint, the Pro Football Docs believe Week 7 is the beginning of a realistic return date for Prescott.

Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy all but confirmed that by saying the team is preparing for Rush to start against the Eagles.

When the initial injury occurred, the Pro Football Docs projected an absence of at least six weeks because of the time required to heal the fractured bone.

Any return before that would leave Prescott open to potential grip issues and leave him with an elevated risk for a refracture if he hit his thumb in the same way he injured it.

While it’s great to see Prescott back on the practice field, talks about his return really won’t heat up until Week 7 when Dallas faces the Lions. However, that will likely depend on how Rush performs Sunday night against the Eagles. If he continues his stellar play, the Cowboys could opt to give Prescott another week of practice before bringing him back against the Bears in Week 8.

Either way, the Cowboys are in prime position in the NFC East because of their defense, which ranks third in points allowed and seventh in yards allowed.

That defense will be put to the test Sunday night against Jalen Hurts and the league-leading Eagles. Philadelphia ranks second in yards gained, fifth in points scored and first in rushing touchdowns and net yards per passing attempt.
