Dallas Mavericks star guard Luka Doncic exited Wednesday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors with left hamstring soreness and he will not play Thursday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Doncic’s early fourth quarter exit Wednesday night ended his streak of seven triple-doubles while scoring at least 20 points and his next opportunity to play comes Sunday against the Denver Nuggets.
It would not be surprising to see him miss Sunday’s game and he has an outside chance to return next Tuesday against San Antonio, according to our panel of doctors.
The good news is head coach Jason Kidd told reporters it was under consideration if he would travel to Oklahoma City with the team.
That hints towards him exiting the win out of precaution rather than a hamstring strain. Kidd told reporters that Doncic signaled to him that he was in pain and needed a sub early in the fourth quarter.
Doncic limped to the locker room before being ruled out with left hamstring soreness.
Given his play style, Doncic has returned quickly from injuries in the past. He played opening night (Oct. 15) despite dealing with a left calf strain he suffered in mid-October.
He missed five games last season with a left thigh strain he picked up in mid-March, but was 100% healthy for the playoff push.
In 58 games this season, Doncic is averaging 34.3 points, 9 rebounds and 9.8 assists while shooting 49.4% from the field and 37.8% from 3-point range.
Dante Exum and Tim Hardaway Jr. are likely to see increased playing time with Doncic out.
