How Soon Can Los Angeles Dodgers Mookie Betts Return From Hand Fracture?

Mookie Betts Injury Update

Los Angeles Dodgers perennial All-Star Mookie Betts left Sunday's game versus the Kansas City Royals on June 17 due to a fracture in his left hand. Betts took a 98 mph pitch off his hand, causing him to fall to the ground writhing in pain.

Our panel of Pro Baseball Docs agrees with the initial reports that he does not need surgery and that the injury is not season-ending. By video analysis, we concur that no surgery is required, but the issue lies with the fracture being on the bottom hand, which is essential for generating power and contact off the bat.

Injury Return Timeline

Betts will initially be placed on the 10-day IL, but there is concern about a potential move to the 60-day IL. The expectation is that the outfielder will miss multiple months, with a return late in the season to help the Dodgers gear up for a playoff push.

This injury creates a significant gap in the Dodgers' star-studded lineup, leading to many lineup changes soon to be made. Talks of star acquisition Shohei Ohtani potentially leading off going forward are already circulating.

Offensive Powerhouse Sidelined

The loss of Betts is a huge blow to a lineup that is tied for fourth in the MLB in runs per game (4.9). Betts was in the midst of a great start to the season and had recently broken out of a slump, now hitting .304 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs. His absence will undoubtedly be felt as the Dodgers navigate the rest of the season without one of their key players.
