How Soon Can San Diego Padres Fernando Tatis Jr. Return From Elbow Injury?

Star shortstop turned outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. left the San Diego Padres game on June 21 prematurely after being hit by a pitch from former Padres pitcher Colin Rea. The impact struck Tatis Jr. on the elbow, and it has been reported as a left triceps contusion.

Video analysis by our panel of Pro Baseball Docs suggests that Tatis Jr. is likely dealing with a bone bruise near the triceps tendon insertion, rather than a muscle injury. Will undergo further imaging to rule out fracture.

The swelling from the injury has likely set in overnight, causing discomfort and limiting his mobility. Despite this, it is expected that Tatis Jr. will avoid being placed on the injured list (IL).

Tatis Jr. may miss a day or two to manage the swelling and ensure a full recovery. The Padres are hopeful for his quick return to maintain his offensive contributions.

With 14 home runs and 36 RBIs in 80 games so far this season, Tatis Jr.'s presence in the lineup is crucial for the Padres. They will need his bat as they navigate through their schedule. While a return after the weekend is anticipated, there is a potential for a surprise comeback before the weekend concludes.
