Injury Mismatch of the Week: Miami Dolphins vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Each Saturday, we’ll be previewing a key injury mismatch typically with a 10+ SIC score advantage. Over the past three seasons, teams with a 10+ SIC score advantage have hit against the spread at greater than 60%.

Miami Dolphins - SIC score 81.4

Miami’s main health disadvantage is on the offensive end, where they are without Terron Armstead and backup running back Jeff Wilson Jr.

Tua Tagovailoa’s health will also remain a concern throughout the season as he would miss multiple games if he suffers another concussion.

The loss of Jalen Ramsey is also significant because of the team’s lack of depth at corner. CB3 Justin Bethel will likely play through knee ailment, but CB4 Nik Needham remains on the PUP list.

Look for Justin Herbert and new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to take advantage of the thin Dolphins secondary.

Los Angeles Chargers - SIC score 91.5

The main Chargers downgrade on defense is J.C. Jackson, who is returning from a patellar tendon rupture that he suffered in Week 7 last year.

Jackson is playing but will not be close to 100% healthy until at least the midpoint of the season. That could mean good things for Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in the passing game.

Los Angeles’ offense is completely healthy and ready for its first game under a new offensive regime.
