Is Weird Throwing Elbow Worth Concern for LSU QB Jayden Daniels?

A photo resurfaced online Wednesday of LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels’ throwing elbow with an odd notch at the end of it, prompting questions of how concerned prospective teams should be about drafting him.

As Dr. David Chao, ProFootballDoc, explains below, our panel of doctors have no concern about Daniels’ elbow as it is likely calcification and/or olecranon bursitis.

Essentially, the issue looks worse than it is and that was evident in Daniels’ throwing performance at LSU’s Pro Day.

The projected Top 5 pick also measured at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds and carries no real medical concerns heading into the draft, according to our panel of doctors.

Jayden Daniels Injury History

Despite several clips where Daniels opted for the most dangerous path, he escaped college without significant injury.

On Oct. 26, 2019, he suffered an unknown left knee injury when he was twisted down awkwardly on a tackle, but he missed just one play before returning to the game.

Despite returning to the game, he missed the Nov. 9 game following a bye week before returning Nov. 16, 2019 against Oregon State.

He finished the season with his usual production in the pocket and on the ground and did not undergo any procedures between college seasons.

On Nov. 26, 2022, Daniels suffered a right ankle sprain against Texas A&M, but he was able to play through the injury for the rest of the game. He played in the SEC Championship game the following week, but aggravated the sprain and had a down performance.

Daniels suffered a concussion, the first documented head injury of his career, on Nov. 4, 2023 on a hit from Alabama LB Dallas Turner. He missed the rest of the game, but cleared concussion protocol to play the following week against Florida and showed no ill effects the remainder of the season.
