The Hornets placed guard Ish Smith in the NBA's health and safety protocols, bringing the total to 5 players out for the foreseeable future for the 8th seed in the East. LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Mason Plumlee, and Jalen McDaniels entered protocols on Saturday.
Each of the players will be out and in isolation for at least 10 days as they wait for the symptoms to subside. They will need to be without symptoms for 10 days before returning to the team and then be cleared by a team doctor before returning to the court.
Despite the absences, Charlotte defeated the Hawks, 130-27, after losing their previous 3 games. Smith started that game and scored 18 points, leading the team with 7 assists. Rookie 1st-round pick James Bouknight and Kelly Oubre Jr. are the only 2 remaining guards with NBA experience on the roster. Second-round rookie Scottie Lewis would be next up.
