Ja Morant And Dillon Brooks Enter COVID Protocols, Leaving Grizzlies With Little Wing Depth

The Grizzlies added star guard Ja Morant and starting forward Dillon Brooks to the NBA's health and safety protocols on Dec. 8 and Dec. 9, respectively, after testing positive for COVID-19. Brooks, who is scoring 17.1 ppg in 12 games this season, joins reserves Brandon Clarke and Ziaire Williams on the injured list for the 14-11 Grizzlies, who have won 5 of 6 games without Morant. Memphis plays the Lakers on Thursday night, and will turn to breakout shooting guards De'Anthony Melton and Desmond Bane. Morant has been out since Nov. 26 with a left knee sprain, and will be unable to rejoin the team to continue his rehab for at least 10 days unless he posts 2 negative PCR tests over 24 hours apart. The duo join a growing list of NBA players to test positive in recent weeks, as outbreaks have struck the Hornets, Bulls, and Nuggets.
