Grizzlies' explosive star Ja Morant gave fans a scare once again tonight versus the Timberwolves when he went down grabbing his left hip and groin area after a non-contact play on a fast-break.
Morant left the game with 5:49 left in the 3rd quarter after being checked out along the sidelines for a few minutes, but returned at the beginning of the 4th quarter and finished the contest.
Morant appeared to suffer an ankle eversion after a strong straight-leg step in transition that forced his hip into external rotation. While the non-contact play looked scary, there is no mechanics involved with a potentially serious injury.
The biggest worry is for a minor groin strain that would be found in the coming days as his muscles recover. Even though he returned to the contest, he could miss games if the strain lingers.
Morant struggled to move with his trademark power and fluidity in the 4th quarter and was consistently grabbing at his left hip and groin area throughout the period.
The 22-year-old scored 10 points on 3-10 shooting in the quarter on the way to a 119-114 loss in Minnesota.
Morant has missed 14 games this season, 12 of which came on a similarly scary non-contact left knee sprain in late November.
The Grizzlies play against the beaten-up Bulls on Saturday in Chicago and against the Spurs on Monday to finish off February.
