Jacoby Brissett, the Dolphins backup quarterback, appeared to injure his right knee against the Ravens and left the game. Tua Tagovailoa, who did not start the game because of a fracture on his left middle finger, has replaced Brissett for the time being. Fox's sideline reporter Kristina Pink said Brissett was cleared to return, but head coach Brian Flores opted to put Tagovailoa in the game. We also believe Brissett's knee is fine, even though his reaction was worrying. This is another prime example of judge the injury, not the reaction. By video, there does not appear to be a non-contact ACL tear. Brissett collapses like his knee gives out, but there is no clear injury mechanism. The 28-year-old had 11 completions on 23 throws for 156 yards before exiting.
Update
After the game, Flores said Brissett could have played, but he left Tagovailoa in because he was in rhythm. The second-year quarterback finished with 8 completions on 13 passes for 158 yards and a rushing touchdown. Tagovailoa explained after the game that it was difficult to grip the ball with his fractured middle finger. He gets 10 days to rest and should be able to start against the Jets next week.
