James White Out For Season After Hip Subluxation

It is now confirmed that James White, the Patriots running back, suffered a right hip subluxation in Week 3 against the Saints. By video, the injury was similar to Washington quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in Week 1, but not as bad as to Tua Tagovailoa's hip injury from Alabama in college. White's season is reportedly over, but this does not necessarily mean he needs surgery or his injury is significantly worse than Fitzpatrick's. The rigors of his third-down back position requiring the shiftiness and quickness provides for a longer recovery timeline. The hope and expectation is that White will make a full recovery for 2022. The biggest potential worry is some sort of a vascular necrosis to the hip, where you lose blood supply. If that is present then this becomes a Bo Jackson-type issue. If the Patriots have a measured and slow return for him in 2022 that should lessen the chance of that. We hope to see the 29-year-old back fully healthy next season.
