The Jets’ new linebacker went down in the second quarter of the second preseason game with a left ankle/lower leg injury. He hobbled off the field and went into the medical tent before he was carted off. Jets Head coach Robert Saleh has said Davis is going to miss several weeks plus the team’s bye week, which comes at Week 6. Reports say the team is treating it like a high ankle sprain, but it is not exactly a high ankle sprain. By video, this is almost an eight week injury. He does get rolled up on and is leg whipped on the left lower leg. Given that it was a preseason game, there was less camera coverage in terms of different angles. It is possible that he suffered a fibula fracture that can be considered like a high ankle sprain. This would fit the eight week timeline for return, which would see him back in game action after the Jets’ Week 6 bye. In any case, it's unusual to be this definitive on a return timeline. The Jets surely need him back as soon as possible since they have already lost Carl Lawson to a season-ending Achilles injury.
