Jamien Sherwood, the Jets rookie middle linebacker, reportedly tore his Achilles tendon in Sunday's 54-13 loss to the Patriots. Sherwood initially exited the game to be checked for concussion in the first half, but was cleared to return. He then exited in the third quarter and was deemed questionable to return with a calf injury. If the rookie's Achilles tear is confirmed by MRI, he will be done for the season. He had 14 combined tackles in five games this year.
The 21-year-old Auburn alum was filling in for starter C.J. Mosley when he was injured. Mosley suffered a hamstring strain Week 5 against the Falcons and has not practiced since. The Jets play the 5-2 Bengals Week 8 and will also be without rookie quarterback Zach Wilson, who suffered a PCL strain Sunday and will miss at least two weeks.
