San Francisco quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was not spotted at the beginning of practice Friday as he recovers from the calf contusion that knocked him out of the team's Week 4 loss. Rookie Trey Lance will reportedly make his starting debut against the Cardinals this week. We thought Garoppolo had a solid chance to practice Friday and be available to play Sunday. It will not be a multi-week absence for the 29-year-old, who played in just six games last season after suffering a high ankle sprain and reaggravating the injury. The good news is the calf contusion cannot be reaggravated and Garoppolo should return to full health after the team's Week 6 bye. Lance was 9 for 18 for 157 yards and 2 touchdowns last week against Seattle. He also had seven rushes for 41 yards. Through four weeks, Arizona is ranked 11th in passing yards allowed.
