Joel Embiid missed a second consecutive game on Wednesday 12/27 due to a right ankle sprain he suffered against the Toronto Raptors on Friday 12/22. The injury occurred while attempting to block a layup, resulting in Embiid landing on Jakob Poeltl's foot.
Embiid, the reigning MVP has been playing some of the best basketball of his career, with averages of 40.7 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists over NBA Week 9 and picking up the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
The Philadelphia 76ers are currently on a four-game road trip. His availability for the next two games on Friday in Houston and Saturday in Chicago is unlikely as he has stayed home to receive daily treatment. The next home game for the 76ers is on Tuesday 2 January against Chicago when a return is more likely after what will be 10 days of recovery from this ankle sprain.
Impact on the 76ers
Embiid's absence has a notable impact on the team. In his absence Paul Reed will start at center for the 76ers. After losing to Miami Heat on Christmas Day without Embiid, fortunately for the 76ers on Wednesday 12/27 they defeated Orlando Magic 112-92.
