John Means Dealing With Forearm Tightness, Heading For MRI and Likely IL Trip

John Means, the Baltimore Orioles, left handed ace exited Wednesday's start early after reportedly experiencing forearm tightness.

The 28-year-old is scheduled to undergo an MRI soon after his average fastball velocity dropped from 92.8 mph in his first start to 91.6 mph in his latest start.

He completed four innings and was lifted after 51 pitches.

The ProBaseballDocs note that forearm tightness or soreness is often code word for more ominous elbow issues.

The hope for now is Means' injury is related more to the lockout and quick ramp up than any ominous UCL damage.

At the very least, Means is facing a 10-day IL trip and would be lucky to avoid a 60-day IL stint. That will depend on what the team sees in the MRI results.

The Orioles are 1-5 and losing Means would pile on to their season woes.

It could also open up an opportunity for top pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez, but Means should not be counted out until the team reveals more about the pending MRI results.
