Raiders rookie safety Johnathan Abram suffered a torn rotator cuff and labrum during Monday’s game against Denver on a big hit in the first half on wide receiver Daesean Hamilton that forced an incompletion. The rookie played the rest of the game and showed no signs of being hurt during or even after the game. He played 49 out of 64 defensive snaps on Monday night and had five tackles and a pass break-up. Abram received a second opinion on his shoulder and is confirmed to be out for the year. Although I have had players choose to put off this surgery until after the season, the risk here is he is a young player and the season just started. Rotator cuff tears get bigger and harder to repair if ignored. If this were a veteran or if only a few games to go, I am sure Abram would tough it out. Fixing it now for better long term results is the smart thing to do.The loss of Abram and the potential loss of Gareon Conley going into Week 2 against the Chiefs will be implemented in the Injury Index.
