Jonnu Smith Injures Right Shoulder Against Jets, Will Miss Practice Time But Likely Play Against Chargers

Patriots tight end Jonnu Smith left the matchup against the Jets in the first half and did not return. By video, Smith injured his right shoulder when he landed hard on his right side on an incomplete pass. During the next offensive series he clearly favors his right arm, blocking only with his left. He was listed as questionable a short time later and did not return to the game.

By video, we have significant worry for an AC joint sprain. This should not be a long term injury, but he certainly will miss practice time and may need an injection to play through. Typical timeframe before soreness goes away depends on the grade of the sprain, but we would expect it to be between two to four weeks. The Patriots play the Chargers next Sunday.
