Josh Bell Heading For MRI After Leaving With Knee Injury

Josh Bell, the Nationals power hitting first baseman, left Wednesday's contest before the start of the 4th inning after he reportedly felt his knee “tighten up.”

The hulking figure told reporters after the game that there wasn't a specific play that he felt it happen, but he felt his knee get stiff while playing first base in the 3rd inning.

The 29-year-old is reportedly heading for a precautionary MRI, but the ProBaseballDocs don't expect a long absence for the left handed hitter.

With the addition of the universal designated hitter, Bell can return to the lineup at any time in that role. Nelson Cruz, 41, has had a lock on that role for the Nationals since the start of the season, but could give way to Bell for a game or two coming up.

Bell is hitting .354 this season with 2 homeruns, 11 RBIs and 8 walks in 48 at bats.

The Nationals take on the Diamondbacks at 1:10 p.m. PT and are 1.5-run underdogs, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
